Summer is a season that brings excitement, sunshine, and outdoor activities. It’s a time for shedding off bulky winter garments and donning clothes that allow you to show some skin. However, if you’ve recently had weight loss surgery, you might be hesitant to show off the results of your hard work. This can make it difficult to embrace the season and enjoy all the fun it has to offer. Fortunately, there are many ways you can boost your summer confidence post-surgery. In this blog post, we will share some tips that will help you feel your best and enjoy the summer with confidence.
1) Buy clothes that make you feel your best. At the start of summer, invest in clothes that make you feel confident. Clothes that fit well and flatter your new figure will help you feel good about yourself, and therefore, boost your confidence. Shop for clothes that accentuate your new look and make you feel comfortable. Avoid ill-fitting clothes or styles that don't suit your new physique (i.e. clothes that are too tight or loose).
2) Participate in activities you enjoy. Whether it’s a day at the beach, a poolside party, or playing an outdoor game, if there’s an activity that makes you happy, do it! Engage in summer activities that you enjoy doing but also make you feel confident and proud. You’ve worked hard to be able to move more and become more active, so show it off and own it!
3) Practice self-care (take care of your mind & body). A healthy body and a clear mind are critical in boosting confidence. Make time for yourself and engage in relaxation techniques such as yoga and meditation. Get enough sleep, eat healthy foods, and exercise regularly. When your health is optimal, you feel confident enough to enjoy the summer.
4) Engage in support groups. Find a WLS support group and share your experiences with them. Sharing your challenges and achievements with people who have been in your shoes can boost your confidence and help you feel understood. A support group can also offer useful tips and tricks to help further boost your confidence.
5) Celebrate your progress. Celebrate your WLS journey, the progress you’ve made so far, and the life change that you’ve brought upon yourself. Recognizing and acknowledging your achievements down to daily practice is a form of self-love that will guide you towards feeling confident and relaxed.
Summer can be a challenging season for those who have had WLS, but it doesn't have to be. By wearing clothes that make you feel good about yourself, participating in activities you love, practicing self-care, reaching out to support groups, and celebrating your progress, summer can be a fun and enjoyable season in your new body!
